How can you make something good even better? CLANMO and the German Lufthansa have done just that with a relaunch of the airline’s mobile portal. The portal, which grabbed the attention of the travel industry two years ago, is to undergo a thorough makeover. The concepts and ideas which make up this comprehensive mobile service will, however, remain untouched: Lufthansa’s services can be used anywhere and at any time directly via mobile phone.
All previously collected data and altered market conditions will now be used as a starting point to further optimize design, usability and user navigation.
Aims
Creating a further boost of the service’s already tremendous success rates is the defined goal of this relaunch. In order to achieve this, the design and usability specialists at CLANMO developed a list of measures to be taken, which would further optimize the functions and user navigation within the portal. The frontend was to be recreated with particular attention being paid to the capabilities of the modern smartphones, with their touch screen navigation and improved browser functions.
Realization
Design & Processe
The portal’s frontend was completely redesigned and sets new benchmarks in mobile internet visualization. The new design utilzes the capacity and possibilities of the mobile browser, thereby furthering the ease of use. Alongside the already optimized phone display adjustment, the portal now supports a variety of services on corresponding devices, such as javascript functions, to greatly simplify service processes and data input from the user.
- Dialogue optimization, shortening of page browsing, simplification of portal use

- Automation completion of data entry fields
- Rollover effect: dynamic forms and seat maps (seat selection)

Furthermore, individual services within the portal will be equipped with new features.
Booking:
- Extended search options during the booking process
- Simplified sorting of search results by different criteria
- Optimized display of available flight options such as return flight details
Schedule:
- Scroll function within search results
- Results can be directly linked with the booking by transferring results from the flight plan
Check in:
- Input of specific travel data (passport etc) for certain routes (document check)
- Optional new display of a mobile phone boarding pass, even after successful check in via telephone or PC
